I a few weeks ago I had emailed the folks at Mugen Power (previously known as Lion Battery, I think) to see if they were going to produce a 3rd party battery for the Wind. They immediately responded that they were still gauging interest. Today they followed up with this statement:

Quote:
Referring to your enquiry for a Mugen Power Battery for the MSI Wind U100, we would like to inform you we are now developing high-performance batteries for this model. As soon as we have any further information, we will forward this to you by email. Thanks for visiting our website and interest in our products.

I have purchased a few batteries from them for various PDAs and have always found them to be high quality and they usually have options for either slightly more capacity in the same size as the mfg'ers battery or larger extended batteries, both usually at decent (but not bargin) prices.

I hope they will be quick to bring either a slighter higher capacity version that takes up the same space as a three cell or six cell and beyond. If anyone else would like to follow up with them regarding their preference about size, capacity, price or ETA, here is their web site: http://www.mugenpowerbatteries.com/

Warning:
The 9-cell batteries sold by LION Batteries appeared to be faulty. LION is still in the process of fixing the problem.
According to Mark, a LION salesperson, only a small percentage of the total stock is faulty.
Nevertheless, our advice is to wait for LION to fix the issue before buying one of their 9-cells.
Keep track of this topic for updates on the situation.

Ditto. I've gotten 4 or 5 PDA batteries from them and they were all better than the OEM batteries.

They offer 7800 mAh batteries for the Asus EEEpc 700/900 for $134.99, my gues is Wind ones wil be near that.

In Manila the official SRP for the 6 cell battery is 112 USD equivalent. ETA has been moved back to 30th August from the original 31st July timetable.

Thanks Galt for inviting us to join this MSI Wind user group. Currently, high performance extended Mugen Power batteries are being developed for the Wind U100 and will come in matching colours. As soon as more specs are available for publication, we will post this immediately here as well.

Just for the record: Lion Battery is the Canadian/North American distributor of Mugen Power batteries and can be found at http://www.lionbattery.com.

Can't happen soon enough if you ask me. I'm getting REALLY tired of the sub 2-hour run time of the 3-cell battery. Please Mugen people make a high capacity battery that lets us be on the go for at least six hours. that would be awesome beyond belief.

Do you have any distribution in Scandinavia or will we have to resort to eBay for our battery needs?

All this would be more awesome if Mugen would sell the battery at a price less than MSI's. But that might be wishful thinking - unless Mugen has the batteries made all the way out in China.

Seems MSI is going to be undercut by third party devs. Great. I think that 7 hours under full use on the Wind would make me very happy as I could really not take the power brick with me.

I will be getting one of these very likely.

Yeah, I just RMA'ed my original 3 cell, and asked for a new 6 cell from Manila while waiting for the 3 cell replacement. They still don't have it :( I hope this other brand will show up down here when available... I don't want to go to Hong Kong for that...

Mugen,

Any thoughts in making a battery charger with the new batteries? So we can have one in the wind and another one charging.

Wouldnt that make the battery much heavy?

Why? You would only have one in the wind and another battery charging at the outlet
