Someone asked how to update the Bios so heres what I did:

First I didn't want to bother with a cd or floppy so I went for a SD card
(Actually a minisd in a usb adapter) Either media you use will be fine, basically your booting the machine to a dos environment then running the bios program.

So first I downloaded the Bios from MSI - Unzipped it and put it in a folder
You will have
eafudos (batch file)
EAFUDOS (EXE )
EN011IMS (105 file)

I made my SD bootable by using this program
HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8
(just a case of formating the disk and choosing the option of a startupdisk. And pointing it to a few 98 files)

Then I copied the Three files on to the SD
Next power up the Wind and press delete a few times to get to bios - change the boot order to the device you are using, floppy CD, in my case "usbharddrive"
I inserted the now bootable SD/usb stick with the files on and restarted the wind (F10+enter)

The wind boots up and gives me a dos environment

I just type in the name of the bios program followed by the bios file and press enter
EAFUDOS.EXE EN011IMS.105

The Bios updates and we all had cake

U may be able to do this from windows by opening a command prompt - but I went old skool :!:

Any Q's just ask, I know this sounds more complicated than it is

Just a quick tip if your keyboard locks up after bios update.

1. Don't Panic

2. Power down wait 10 seconds & remove battery

3. Put humpty back together and all fine again.

Doody: Also check here for a picture guide, if you're still unclear.

What does the flashing fixes apart from the switching on issue?

Great howto. Surely to be added to the wiki!
Shall be doing this as soon as mine arrives.

Thanks for the guide.

I'm familiar with flashing this way but it seems like a right royal pain, MSI have some good windows flashing tools for their other hardware... nevermind.

I am gonna await more people to do this and see how it goes. I am keen on flashing, but at the same time I am cautious.

So you know, it's not possible to flash a BIOS from the command prompt in Windows.

In MSI's Liveupdate software there's a BIOS flashing tool for AMI BIOS motherboards but it doesn't like the rom formatted the way it is on the Wind's download page (the wording on the download page also suggests the liveupdate's BIOS's are in a different form).

I'm hopeful the Windows tool will follow soon...

The 2s power button issue is very annoying so I won't be waiting for an easier tool to update.

Just curious if anyone has even called MSi's tech support to see if they have a tool for this? When I was having a problem with my Asus A7K Laptop, I had to have them e-mail me the tool and bios I needed (I know the new Wind bios is up for download, I'm just saying). To this day they still haven't published the tool needed or that bios release, you still need to get it from Asus tech support.

I haven't received my Wind yet otherwise I'd be all over calling tech support.

The Medion Akoya Mini also has a BIOS update available, from Medion;
http://forum.msi-wind.de/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=219
If this is the same as the MSI one, I'm sure it will work on the Advent too.

Those Germans probably have some interesting things to say about these machines, but I'm not prepared to read it through babelfish.

I just followed the instructions above.

May I suggest that others hold off until I've tested the laptop for a bit. I don't want to be responsible for them bricking!
