I thought it'd be a good idea to create a dedicated thread for discussing the built-in wireless LAN card.

With the rest of the Wind's hardware working in one form or another, it's the last piece of the puzzle.

I'll update this post with anything I find.

Useful Information

Chip: RTL8187SE
Hardware ID: VEN_10EC&DEV_8199&SUBSYS_68941462&REV_22

Here is RealTek's site where they post recent drivers for various platforms. Someone has been successful using the OS X driver.

You mean for the ethernet jack, not the WLAN card, right?

Those drivers are for the LAN card. AFAIK nobody has got the WLAN working.

I need some feedback to get this driver working.

I need someone to already have a working install of Leopard first with the default WLAN Realtek card.

1. http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/4133/pciutils_osx_installer%201.03.zip Download and install this app.

2. Once app is installed open "Terminal"

3. type sudo -s then type your password and press enter.

4. Now type lspci -nv > ~/Desktop/lspci.txt [press enter]

The file lspci.txt should be located on your desktop. Go ahead and link me this file.

Thanks everyone!

-Stell

Does the Advent have the same WLAN as the Wind?

heard that advent and wind are different wifi cards, but could be wrong. Either way they can be swapped for 30$ with a different card. People talk about the dell wireless card alot. And taking off the metal shielding to get it to fit as well.

They both use the RTL8187SE chip. The Medion is different tho.

someone updated the wind-osx86 wiki this morning with an entry saying that the WLAN card works with a ralink driver:

http://wind-osx86.wikispaces.com/page/diff/10.5+What%27s+Working/27765855#htmldiff2

My assumption is that they have the Akoya with the Ralink WLAN and did not realize that the Wind has a different card. Can someone verify this by perhaps testing the Ralink driver?

Unsurprisingly it doesn't work.

Anyone have a link to the Dell card? Is it an easy mod?

Anyone want to bet this might be a good starting point. They are usb drivers but it might get us somewhere since they are the same chipset.

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.2

USB Adapter
802.11g US54SE II (Realtek's RTL8187 Chipset) MSI
Detected as an Ethernet Controller with RTL8187L Drivers from http://www.treiberupdate.de/treiber-download/download-163407-treiber-Realtek-RTL8187LWLANChip.html, and working perfectly! Working with driver

There are a couple of drivers for 8187 on the Realtek site, just nothing for the SE.

ok here is a hard one, i bought one of the l DELL WIRELESS DW 1490 cards and when i put it in my wind it wont turn on. I have tried resitting it int eh pci-e port like 20 times. Now when i take the card and put it in my Dell 1330 it works fine, and trying the 1330 intel card in my wind does not prevent it booting. Any ideas? update wind bios maybe or is my card just half duff?

Try just factory defaulting the Wind's BIOS?
