Hello All,
Total newbie here, please help! Just got my wind. And have installed MSIWindosx86 six times now with no joy on the resolution of the monitor. Here is exactly what I'm doing. Culled from these here forums that are great!

1. Mounted MSIWindosx86 on USB drive with Chameleon-1.0.11-installer.
2. F11 Select boot drive
3. Installer starts (800x600 resolution for all steps)
4. Choose English
5. Disk Utility - Format partition 1 "HD Name"
6. Click Erase.
7. Quit Disk Utility
8. Click Back Arrow
9. Click continue (From Language page)
10. Custom Install - Untick "Kernal" (spelling?) - Done
11. Install
12. Installer runs
13. Reg info Page
14. Reboot
15. WindKexts
16. Run all three included Kexts on Easy (via password)
17. Disk Utility - Repair Permissions
18. Boots fine - except NO 1024x600 resolution avail for selection at all! (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 - plus MANY MORE! Awesome! - Except for the whole not actually my monitors actual resolution thing - bummer!)

Is there some simple step I'm missing here? I have searched the forums and everyone seems to fix this running Kexts. I run them one by one but in the same session, is that wrong? Should I run them one at a time then verify each individually, should I only run one of them and not others? Is there an order? Can anyone help out this poor newbie who really thinks this is all to awesome ---if I could only see my monitor the way you all do! Please, and Thank you to all who respond. Thanks again, awesome forum, awesome skills everyone here - hopefully you can help.

Thanks!

You need to Repair Permissions after installing the Kexts. So, try reinstalling the Kexts, then Repairing Permissions, and rebooting; no need to reinstall the OS again.

good luck!

use kext helper to install the kext or the msiwind package, the go to system/library and remove the file Extensions.mkext or use osx86tools to remove the kext cache.
Then reboot, should tell you that boot cache have to be rebuild...click ok(could not appear), before you enter to osx you have to see the monitor to flicker, that the video driver that is loaded...and you can enjoy :geek: .
Ah, the driver is composed by 2 files, the gma950, and framebuffer...

Consumer -
Thanks for your help, it was late while I was typing last night. I actually have been Repairing every time not Verifying permissions every time so that's not changed. Tried it again this morning - just to make sure and no dice. Just to be clear I'm using a Windkexts zip I found in the forums, that includes:
kext helper
and the kexts:
AppleIntelGMA950.kext
AppleIntelIntegratedframebuffer.kext
LaptopDisplay.kext
These are the right ones yes? If so not sure what to do...I'll keep looking though, thanks again for the reply!

I tried the doing it like you said, using everything but osx86tools and now it's just hanging at the apple with the spinny bar wheel. Going to try a reinstall again...SO CLOSE and yet So very far. Does anyone know why it looks like on the apple start up page it full screen then when it boots into the os it goes to 800x600 with a black bar? I have so MANY resolution settings but the one I need...Any other suggestions? THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ANY RESPONSES! I'm new at this and trying really hard to follow all of what I'm doing...

Thanks!

UPDATE:
On my latest re install I've noticed that in the place where I de select the Kernel, there are also Extensions. I opened up the folder and see that all of the names of the kexts that I've been putting in with kext helper are already there on the installer? Should I be doing something different here? Cause they all appear to already be being installed...Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks again to all who reply!

which iso do you use?
for msiwindosx all kext are preinstalled, but the sometimes doesnt go to 1024x600.
At least you can try switchresx, a program to set the screen at every login...
I use this package for 950...

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

As you can see - this package worked for me, it knocked out all the other resolutions (THERE WERE A TON!) but it gave me the resolutions I needed. I tried switcher x but un installed it when these resolutions took over. AWESOME!!!! Thank you again malaga82! So happy with my new nano book!

Thanx for the thread and link.

I installed MSIWindosx and only got 800x600. Lots of new posts on GMA950 but they are all confusing, esp if they work on 10.5.4.

The GMA950.pkg.zip about 4 posts up fixed the 1024x600 resolution for me. I downloaded it, expanded it, ran it. Then fixed permissions and reboot. Voila.
